The play deals with the eternal conflict between the mind and the body and the unanswered question of the supremacy of one over the other. Hayavadana explores these issues through the story of two friends. While one is undoubtedly intellectual the other is a physically robust personality. The twist in the story occurs when the friends die, their heads get accidentally interchanged and they regain life, thanks to a boon.
