A modern poet of the piano

Budd’s music, always spacious, often minimalist with a distinctive sparse beauty, was inspired by a boyhood spent listening to the buzz of telephone wires near his home in the Mojave Desert town of Victoriaville, California (though he was born in nearby Los Angeles).

As a pianist and composer he first came to prominence in 1978 with his album “Pavilion of Dreams” produced by Brian Eno and with a line-up which included composer Gavin Bryars. His career has led him in various directions, including film music and collaborations with a range of artists, not least the seminal 80s band, the Cocteau Twins, whose joint album The Moon and the Melodies won him many fans in the independent rock underground.

Though Harold has been writing music for film he had retired from public performance. This will be an unmissable opportunity to see Harold Budd play solo for this unique concert with OCM in the historic and atmospheric Holywell Music Room.
