Harlem: The Unmaking of a Ghetto

Award-winning photographer Camilo José Vergara has been documenting changes in Harlem since 1970. His Harlem project, recently unveiled at www.invinciblecities.com, serves as the basis for a discussion on the issues of changing race relations, gentrification, and urban renewal. Moderated by Howard Gillette, professor of history at Rutgers-Camden, the panel includes Lance Freeman, Columbia University, and Deborah Willis, Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. This project is supported by the Ford Foundation through grants to the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Humanities. $
