The Columbia Pro Cantare (CPC) continues its tradition of performing the Christmas section and selections from Parts II and III of Handel's Messiah on Sunday, December 7, 2008, 7:30 p.m., at The Jim Rouse Theatre at Wilde Lake, 5460 Trumpeter Rd., Columbia, Maryland. Rich in invention and craft, amazing in musical inspiration and illuminated by an unending number of details that delight the ear, the mind, the heart, the Messiah continues to claim a central place in the public's affection.

Joining CPC will be the festival orchestra, organist Henry Lowe, and an outstanding ensemble of soloists. Rated one of the best Messiah performances in the Baltimore-Washington area, this year’s concert features nationally known soloists - soprano Amy Van Roekel, mezzo Mary Ann McCormick, tenor Mark Schowalter, and bass David Michael.

Miss Van Roekel is actively involved in American Opera Projects in New York City and frequently premieres new works. Miss McCormick recently appeared in a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti at Avery Fischer Hall. Mr. Schowalter is scheduled this season to appear in Prokofiev's War and Peace in December at the New York Metropolitan Opera. Mr. Michael, is appearing this season with Cincinnati Opera in Verdi’s La Traviata,.
