The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs presents its eleventh annual free Summer Opera, Handel’s Acis and Galatea. Two of Chicago’s most celebrated landmarks - the Chicago Cultural Center and Millennium Park - will host performances of Handel’s timeless opera. A feast of gloriously melodic music in a magical library setting makes this an enchanting summer must-see.

Fully costumed and staged, the opera is performed in English and accompanied by members of the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago. Music director Francesco Milioto will lead the performance from the harpsichord and stage director Joanie Schultz brings a new twist to the mythological tale. Chelsea Warren’s creative designs provide a fitting tribute to the Chicago Cultural Center’s previous role as a library.
