If you’re looking for something different to do this May Day Bank Holiday weekend, why not bring your family down to the Hampshire Farmers’ Markets at Petersfield on Sunday 2nd May.

Now that spring is well underway there are lots of delicious new season goodies on offer at the markets as well as spring plants and flowers to brighten up your garden.

HFM’s Alex Handford says a trip to the Farmers’ Market can be a lovely family day out and it’s a great way to show your children that food doesn’t just come from supermarkets. “If you ask many children where food comes from they’ll probably say
the supermarket, so a trip to the Farmers’ Market can be an eye-opening experience.
They can learn that food has seasons and we sell what’s fresh from the fields. Our food has travelled far fewer miles to market than a similar product does to a supermarket shelf and our food is sold here by the people who’ve produced it.”

This month, our producers have fresh asparagus, artichokes, broccoli and new season lamb on offer with the very people who grew or reared the produce on hand to give you tips on the best way to prepare the food for the table. Many of our producers have
special discounts on the day, so it’s always worth popping down to see what’s on offer.
