When he was only a child of 13 years, Guinga realized that his destiny was making music. That decided, he began teaching himself guitar and by the time he was twenty, he had earned the reputation of a virtuoso guitarist and composer and had performed or recorded with virtually all the important musicians of the times -- including: Sergio Mendes, Joao Nogueira, Beth Carvalho, Clara Nunes, Alaide Costa, Elis Regina, Essa Mulher, Cartola and many more. Today, Guinga is one of Brazil's most illustrious guitarists, revered for his ability to blend familiar Brazilian sounds and rhythms -- including samba, baiao, frevo, toada, waltz, choro - with influences such as opera, jazz, the blues, and pop.
