Grecian Taste and Roman Spirit: the Society of Dilettanti August 17, 2008

This exhibition features portraits, sculptures, drawings and rare books surrounding the Society of Dilettanti's first century. The Society of Dilettanti is a British gentlemen's club who sponsored archaeological expeditions to Greece and Asia Minor. The antiques collections that they assembled helped extend the study of classical art from the private delight of the privileged few to the greater public.
