Great Philosophers of Western Thought September 17, 2007

For 2,500 years, Western philosophers have speculated about the nature of man, his relationship with others and the existence and nature of God. Four prominent philosophy professors will explore some of the most important questions to occupy Western philosophy from ancient Greek times to the 20th century, focusing on eight of the West’s prominent thinkers: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hume, Nietzsche, Hegel and Marx. Topics will range from Plato’s and Aristotle’s attempts at comprehensive philosophy to skepticism, science and ethics, political and economic theory, and the search for meaning in today’s world.
