Dr. Trevor Harrison is the third Visiting Fulbright Chair in Canadian Studies at Kennesaw State
University, where he has been in residence during the Fall of 2010. A native of Edmonton, Dr. Harrison
earned his B.A. at the University of Winnipeg, his M.A. at the University of Calgary, and his Ph.D. at the
University of Alberta. Since 2002 he has been on the Sociology faculty of the University of Lethbridge,
holding the rank of full Professor and serving as department Chair since 2004.
He has a wide variety of research and teaching specialties, including Canadian Society, International
Political Economy, Public Policy, and Political Sociology. Recently, he has given talks on Militarism and
Political Culture, and he has a particular interest in the history of populist movements in Canada and the
United States – as reflected in today’s “Great North in the Deep South” topic.
Dr. Harrison has been a visiting professor at Hokkai-Gakuen University, Sapporo, Japan, and at the
University of Alberta, where he was the co-founder and first Research Director of the Parkland Institute.
At the University of Lethbridge he is Associate Director of the Prentice Institute for Global Population and
Economy. He is the author or editor of eight books (three of which have won the University of Lethbridge
Crystal Book Award), and has written scores of journal articles, book chapters and research reports.
