Great Books, Great Movies features classic works of literature translated to film in the Williamsburg Regional Librarys ongoing Thursday Afternoon Film Series. The movies will be shown in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, at 2 p.m. every Thursday in June. They are free of charge and tickets or reservations are not required. June 21 Pride & Prejudice (1940)
Aldous Huxley wrote the screenplay for this classy version of Jane Austens witty comedy of manners. Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier play the sparring lovers with stellar support from a cast that includes Edna May Oliver, Maureen OSullivan and Edmund Gwenn. Cedric Gibbons won an Oscar for the exquisite art direction and Adrian designed the gorgeous gowns.
