In a free lecture that's open to the public, Google's green energy czar Bill Weihl will offer an insider's view of what Google is doing to tackle the climate change problem and what businesses, institutions and individuals can do to help. His presentation is called "Inventing a Clean Energy Future at Google."

Weihl's expert insight will focus on how smart information technology can reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and how affordable renewable energy can be a solution to global warming. Weihl will also touch on the CSCI @ U-M best practices to reduce the energy consumption of computers, printers and other IT equipment.

Weihl helped launch the nationwide Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI), of which U-M is a founding member. He is a leading expert on the environmental impacts of IT and will focus on RE

Weihl leads Google's efforts in computing efficiency and renewable energy research and development, and also manages the company's greenhouse-gas footprint. He has extensive business and technical experience in high-tech, including ten years as a professor of Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, five years as a research scientist at Digital's Systems Research Center, and five years as Chief Architect and then CTO of Akamai Technologies.
