Silicon Valley companies think globally from the start, with a view towards foreign markets, international talent and global sources of capital. When should a company consider expanding internationally? How does it go about establishing foreign operations? What are the main traps and pitfalls to avoid in going global?

The Going Global SIG series will examine common issues encountered by startup and established companies in expanding their business offshore as well as for foreign or multi-national companies coming inbound into the US market. The panelists will cover topics such as intellectual property concerns, human resources issues, tax considerations and data privacy; specific concerns for industries such as solar, life sciences and web based technology companies; and country topics related to doing business in specific countries.

We will kick off our first Going Global SIG with a panel discussion of general considerations for the US company that is thinking of expanding internationally or is already engaged in international operations. The panelists will discuss the general considerations in expanding offshore and what to expect and prepare for in deciding whether to enter a foreign market, establish a global presence or engage in a cross border financing transaction.
