Based in Glasgow, Scotland, indie rock quartet Glasvegas (a combination of Glasgow and Las Vegas) draw their musical inspiration from rockabilly, doo wop, and pop/rock from the '50s and '60s. Cousins James Allan (singer and principal songwriter) and Rab Allan (guitar), bassist Paul Donoghue, and drummer Caroline McKay first came to the attention of Alan McGee while playing a gig in 2006. The following year, the group's "Daddy's Gone" single was released on Sane Man Recordings and ranked as the second best track of 2007 by NME. The track also came to the attention of Lisa Marie Presley, who was so impressed that she not only met the bandmembers for drinks in Edinburgh, but also invited them to record material with her. Glasvegas toured the U.K. in January and February 2008. Their second single, "It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry," was also released in February. The band signed with Columbia Records soon after. ~ Katherine Fulton, All Music Guide
