The Gifts from Our Ancestors project has successfully engaged over 1,500 student throughout the Columbia Gorge region, bringing in Native artists, craftspeople, and cultural ambassadors to 15 schools and after-school programs in Oregon and Washington. Now, you are invited to come out and see the artistic fruits of the program at a wide-ranging art exhibit!
The Gifts from Our Ancestors exhibit showcases a rotating selection of over 150 individual pieces of student-created art, from ceramic masks and salmon sculptures to stop-motion animations and theatrical costumes. The GOA exhibit will be traveling to three different venues throughout the region this year, starting with the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center from July 26* through August 22. Please join us at the opening ceremony on Thursday, July 26 from 5:30-7:30pm. Free and open to the public.
GOA Artistic Director Lillian Pitt, traditional storyteller Ed Edmo, and many GOA teachers, artists, and students will be on hand to perform, speak about the project, and discuss the work. Light refreshments will be served. Be sure to join us for the grand opening of the Gifts from Our Ancestors exhibit!
The GOA exhibit will be traveling to three venues throughout the Gorge this summer and Fall. Be sure to have a look at each show if you can; new and unique artworks will be showcased at each location, making for a one-of-a-kind visit each time!
