New York! Thanks for coming to the last Church edition in July. It was a fanstastic night featuring the gorgeous voice of N'Dea Davenport and a great set of Twilight Tone. Church continues with world-renowned DJ, producer, remixer, composer, musician, and Tru Thoughts recording artist Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL), alongside resident vocalist Nia Andrews (Janelle Monae/Common), Nate Smith (José James/Dave Holland)on drums and Jonathan Maron (Groove Collective/Meshell Ndegeocello) on bass.

This edition of CHURCH features a special appearance by Lady Alma on vocals. Hailing from Philadelphia, Alma Horton is a legend on the house and progressive soul scenes, and a frequent collaborator with MdCL (“Running For Nothing”, “Pressure”), as well as 4hero (“Hold It Down”), King Britt (Sylk 130) and Dego (Silhouette Brown). This month, be also prepared for sparks to fly as MdCL goes head-to-head with the highly respected DJ Carlos Mena (Ocha Records/Casamena/Yoruba Dance Sessions). Recently relocated back to his hometown of Brooklyn after living in Oakland, CA for many years, Mena is also a legend of the house scene, both as a DJ and a producer who has collaborated on classic house tracks with Louie Vega, DJ Spinna, Osunlade and Atjazz, among many others.

CHURCH is a whirlwind mix of live jazz, sampling and a DJ set. The first live set showcases the jazz side of MdCL, blending standards, groove explorations and classic trio interplay with resampling, electronics and live remixing. As the first set draws to a close, the guest DJ takes over the soundtrack while the tables and chairs are cleared away for MdCL to flip the script with the second set - a unique blend of live electronica and live remixing - the jazz club colliding head to head with the dance floor. Previous Church installments have featured talented artists such as Rich Medina, Jose James, N’Dea Davenport and DJ Spinna performing to capacity crowds.
