This August you won't have to travel far to get a taste of the hot and spicy flavors of the Bayou. The Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts at the Osher Marin JCC closes their 20th annual outdoor concert series celebrating Louisiana's own foot stompin' zydeco. The much-anticipated Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie will perform Saturday, August 7th, at 7pm on the Swig Field stage. The evening will begin with a pre-concert line dancing lesson to pair with cowboy boots and hats to get all ages up and dancing. Doors open at 6:15pm. For this event we welcome the non-profit "For The Bayou" to join us. "For the Bayou" was founded in San Francisco in 2008 by Louisiana natives to increase public awareness of the disappearing Louisiana coastal wetlands, to foster restoration and protection of this culturally significant coastal environment and to aid and assist the people of Louisiana in the event of a disaster.

Unbeknownst to many northerners, who often reserve the image of a cowboy for white Anglo-Saxons, Creoles (African-American Francophones) also share in the rural roots of hard work and dedication to the land. Geno epitomizes this cultural tradition. Following in his father John Delafose's footsteps he started his music career at the early age of eight, where he played the rubboard in his father's band. He has since mastered the rubboard, drums, both the diatonic and piano accordions and sings in both French and English. Deeply rooted in traditional Creole music with strong influences from Cajun and country western, the Grammy-nominee is definitely a one of a kind talent - appealing to diverse audiences worldwide.

Come out and enjoy the Summer lazy days and make this last outdoor 'Summer Nights' concert the jump-off to the 2010 - 2011 Kanbar season which will continue to bring world music as well as authors, humor, chamber music, dance and more.
