Raised in a low income neighborhood of Brooklyn, Soner Ön’s perception of money and its place in society lies at the root of his art work. Influenced by the contrast between his personal situation and 80’s cartoons such as Ducktales and Richie Rich where money seems just a trifle, Ön communicates the many facets of money through a minimalistic approach in this multimedia project. He portrays the meaning of wealth and social class, through the definitions engraved in him during his childhood such that in Ön’s work money signifies freedom, value, identity and belonging.
