The human condition thrives, on the most intimate level, within the parameters of occupied personal space. Perhaps with the loss of vitality, places once filled with life can metamorphose, leaving behind the lonely mark of vacancy.
A memory contained in untenanted space reminds us of our universal experience, with each other and as individuals. It takes the explorer, with absence of fear, with disregard of consequence, to go in and confront the mystery of the energies once exchanged, the secrets told, the love that was cultivated at a moment in history that has existed, and has moved on.
The nature of our existence as human beings is temporary, giving way to the only reliable constant of life… the idea of change. The places we leave behind open doors for new light, its mission being to revitalize, but most importantly to inspire.
The photographs in this collection take a journey through the places where I find energy. Sometimes it is stagnant and without emotion…
…now is the time for flux.

Matthew Fehrmann

Recalling specific events serves as a vehicle for dwelling in the past. We record on paper, capture memories, and can exist on a level of nostalgia for the sake of memory.
The recollection of certain memories can hold us motionless, for some making it futile to move toward the future. Life as a memory can occupy our minds with things best forgotten.
We are truly human when our hearts are open. Light creates an environment of compassion, strength and creativity, redirecting the history towards a new expectation of true love.
This body of work is both a release of the past and a glimpse into the future of an intimate life.
