NME reported that at the Reading Festival, Fucked Up’slead singer “Pink Eyes” flashed the audience before diving into the crowd and ended up candidly chatting with fans post-set. This is one weird-ass band. But if you’re into their hardcore punk sound and bizarre demeanor, I have a feeling this will be a gig for the record books. Fucked Up are secretive and spew out random, often false information on themselves as sporadically as their guitars smash together to form their multi-layered, hardcore sound. It’s not the most tuneful stuff on the planet. Angry vocals growl and grind under painfully jagged riffs. But there’s something compelling and inventive about Fucked Up’s material, particularly their latest album, The Chemistry of Common Life. If you’re up for seeing a few sparks fly and potentially an unforgettable live show, Fucked Up hit up Great Scott on October 12 with the slightly milder Vivian Girls.
