Oakland, California

Racism and oppression is out of control in the city of Oakland. Recently, a transgender woman, Brandy Martel, was murdered in front of her friends. Not only has the police and city council been ineffective in stopping crime, they also use it to cover their tracks.

The unchecked power of the police smashed the Occupy movement, regularly abuse youth of color, and murder unarmed people. Recently, the OPD murdered another unarmed youth, Alan Blueford, who was weeks away from graduating from Skyline High School.

Whether it be police brutality or the murder of the oppressed, a movement needs to built to stop violence. We must demand justice from a police department that is out of control and the city council that protects them. Join us for our panel discussion about how to build a movement that can unite the people of Oakland to win justice and take down all systems of oppression."
