550 El Embarcadero
Oakland, California

The Friends of Lakeview Library (FOLL) are no sloucheswhen it comes to "democracy in action." A couple ofyears ago, well-founded rumors about branch libraryclosures were barreling down the pipeline. They were concerned and they decided to do something about it. One Saturday morning, they sent a call to action out to the neighborhood. The library was packed. On that day, the Library Bond Measure was born. The Measure passed and the branch libraries stayed open.

The FOLL needs your help again. The DD park changes - especially as they relate to the Embarcadero closure - are really going to impact our branch library in a significantly negative way.

The group wants to you to do two things. First, read FOLL's statement of concern: http://www.northlakegroup.org/news.cfm?ID=2064

Second, come to their meeting THIS SATURDAY from 11:30-1:30 at the Library. Can we convince the City to tweak their plans so that car fumes and noise don't pollute the air out of this wonderful neighborhood resource? District 2 Council Member candidates will be there to weigh in on the issue. PLUS there will be a SPECIAL guest, Deputy Director of Oakland Public Library, Gerry Garzon, who will also give a short presentation on the possible move of the Main Library to the Convention Center!
