When the Salem Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the State Capitol in August of 2008, it almost seemed as if fire was a constant for the historic site as the Oregon State Capitol building literally rose from the ashes approximately every 80 years . (The 2008 fire was actually 7 years early.)

On this 151st anniversary of the founding of Oregon, you are invited to attend this free program entitled “Whodunit: The Burning of Oregon's Capitol in 1935” where historian Kyle Jansson will describe what transpired on April 25, 1935 when our state capitol building caught fire as thousands watched.

The questions as to who entered the burning building in an attempt to save valuable artifacts, and as to what actually caused the fire will be answered.
