The New Mexico Humanities Council (NMHC), in conjunction with the Branigan Cultural Center, invites grant applicants to a Regular and Mini Grant workshop on Thursday, August 13, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. This workshop will be held at the Branigan Cultural Center in the Shannon Room. Any non-profit organization or institution is eligible to apply for NMHC support for a public project in the humanities.

NMHC Program Officer K. Michelle Quisenberry will field questions about applying for grants for various types of projects, including book and film discussions, local and community history projects, literary symposia, and oral history projects which encourage civic dialogue and reflection. The NMHC makes it a priority to fund projects developed by, for, or aimed at reaching new audiences. The NMHC also encourages applications for projects about New Mexico history and culture as our centennial of statehood approaches. The NMHC’s deadline for submitting proposals for the next cycle of major grants is October 1st; the next deadline for mini grant proposals is November 1, 2009.

This workshop will cover some of the essential skills and strategies needed to prepare successful grant applications for humanities based programs. It will provide participants with tools to help them conceptualize and plan public program grants.

The workshop is organized around key questions relating to NMHC grant support, including WHAT is submitted in a grant application and, HOW to structure an application and supporting materials. The workshop is intended primarily as an introduction to the NMHC grant program, and will be most useful for new or relatively inexperienced grant writers.

By the time the workshop concludes participants should be well positioned to prepare and submit their own applications to support humanities based public programs in their community!

Please join the New Mexico Humanities Council at the Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces on Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Feel free to bring any works in progress you may want to share to get some feedback. Please RSVP at (575) 541-2322.

Space is limited and registration is required. To register for this workshop, please contact Julie Hansen at 575-541-2322, or send an email to Julie Hansen at [email protected]
