Free Film Series Highlights Classic Novels at the Tigard Library August 12, 2009

"The Classics Meet the Silver Screen" film series kicks off with the movie based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby on Wednesday, August 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Tigard Library. The movie stars Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Redford plays the mysterious Jay Gatsby living an opulent life in Long Island during the Roaring Twenties.
The series continues on Tuesday, August 25 at 10:30 a.m. with Anthony Hopkins in the 1993 film based on author Kazuo Ishiguro's novel Remains of the Day. Hopkins plays an English butler who reflects, both humorously and bitterly, on his service to a lord after World War I. Emma Thompson co-stars as the housekeeper.
Films will show on the big screen in the Library Community Room. They are based on books selected by the Library's adult book groups. New members are always welcome.
