Participants in this seven-week, 21-hour program, will learn the business planning process while building business skills and reducing fears of self-employment.The class will be held on consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m, skipping Wednesday, October 28. The class will start on September 30 and conclude November 18. Participants will develop a mission statement, estimate start-up and overhead costs, and learn about profit goal setting, cash flow, marketing, licensing, and record keeping. In the course participants will also learn about personal financial management, the requirements of entrepreneurship, and receive direct, supportive feedback on their business plans. Instructors act more as facilitators than teachers, use intentional "low-tech" presentations, and encourage small group activities. The course is designed for Individuals thinking about starting a business who want to explore the feasibility of their business idea and start-up businesses creating their first business plan. Existing business owners are encouraged to take the class. Business owners seldom take the time to step back from the daily operations to think about the future of their business. This class provides the structure to take a fresh look at their business and to network with other business owners. The networking component of the class is often considered to be very valuable by the class participants. Scholarships are available for individuals who meet income guidelines.
