This year's theme is: ROMANCE IN THE SOUTH SEAS - Marriage and family traditions in Polynesia.

Bring the ‘ohana (family) and celebrate May Day with the Arts and Culture Committee at the fourth annual Polynesian Festival! Learn about marriage customs and family traditions amongst the Pacific islanders practiced in ancient times and today. Bring your suntan lotion, because you’ll want to spend all day watching the action-packed professional Polynesian entertainment and fun-filled cultural exhibitions. You’ll see Hawaiian hula dancers, Samoan sivas, Tongan kailao and the rhythmic Tahitian and Cook Islands drum dances. There will also be food and arts/crafts booths and outrigger canoe rides; Admission is free. Turou, oro mai! (welcome)

The posting you have read refers to the Polynesian Fest from 2007! You'd think someone would delete this info! I'm still checking to see if it's happening this year. It's great! The Leo Ryan Park / Foster City Rec Center numbers are 650-286-3200/3380. I'm going to call during the week. Hope to see you there.

It is held on the 1st Saturday of May as a one day event. If it is held on Sunday, it is because someone at the Rec Centre forgot to reserve that Saturday which is used instead for a wedding reception (twice.)"Drums of the Islands - Exploring the Rhythms of Polynesia" was the 2009 theme. A traditional Cook Islands dedication ceremony to bless a new drum set and to render names for each of the 6 instruments was demonstrated by Merahi o Tehani Dance Group of Union City. It included a demonstration of the Cook Islands Symphony of Drums. Because of the am drizzle, the event was held in the Rec Centre. The 2010 event is scheduled for Saturday May 1 from 10am to 5pm and the theme is "Ei/hei/lei - head and/or neck flower garlands."
