The Foothill College Student Chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (SCNAVTA) will host Pet Ready!, Saturday, April 28, 1:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Foothill College campus in Los Altos Hills.

Sponsored by Adobe Animal Hospital and Mid-Peninsula Animal Hospital, SCNAVTA will host an afternoon of pet disaster preparedness "basics," including hands-on demos, instructions and tours at the Foothill College Veterinary Technology Lab, room 8507 in Building 8500-8700 near parking lot 7, followed by lectures at Building 1500 across from the Smithwick Theatre.

Clearly labeled signs and volunteers will direct attendees to the right locations. For more information visit http://foothillscnavta.com.

Special guest Peter Gross, search dog handler for FEMA, and the search-and-rescue team lead during Hurricane Katrina and the World Trade Center attacks following September 11, 2001, will demonstrate search and rescue dogs in action.

Dr. Christi Derenzi of Adobe Animal Hospital, who regularly conducts canine first aid classes, will give a lecture on pet first aid in the event of a disaster.

Dr. Karen Blount of Mid Peninsula Animal Hospital will deliver a short lecture on how to prepare for a disaster, including making a first-aid kit and formulating a plan.

SCNAVTA will be handing out coupons for free microchip scans at Adobe and Mid-Peninsula Animal Hospitals. Adobe will replace lost microchips for client pets that originally had their chips implanted at its Los Altos hospital.

Lectures on the principles of bandaging will be accompanied by demos at bandage stations, staffed by SCNAVTA students, who will also give tours of the veterinary tech lab, and share the goals of the Foothill veterinary technician program and SCNAVTA club.
