Marshfield, Wisconsin 54449

On Friday January 7 at 5:30 PM, the Friends of the Marshfield Public Library (FOMPL) and Dangerwear will be presenting the FOMPL Rock Freezes Over benefit show at the Chestnut Avenue Center for the Arts. The show will feature musical talents from throughout the state of Wisconsin. Acts on the bill include Eddie Wyman, On Giants Shoulders, The Gusty Tumbler Band, If These Trees Were Clouds, Alex Pitsch, Push the Button, Frank, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, and Kings of Lame featuring the Midwest Tri-State Keytar Orchestra.

Eddie Wyman will be making his triumphant return to the Chestnut Center stage. Wyman is perhaps best known throughout the northwoods as the guitarist for punk band the Meatheads but the local music scene may remember him best from his high energy solo acoustic set featuring a memorable song about owls at July's FOMPL Rock IV. Drawing from influences as diverse as Against Me! and Shel Silverstein Wyman provides both original songs and covers that appeal to a wide audience.

On Giants Shoulders are also familiar to the Marshfield music scene as members Rob Arndt, Matt Osowski, and Tait Oehler formerly played with band Against the Grain (ATG). Now regrouped under their new moniker, the trio is working on recording their first album while attending UW-Stevens Point. Citing influences such as Ben Folds, MuteMath, and As Tall As Lions the group draws musical elements from genres ranging from indie rock to jazz to R&B to forge a unique sound all their own.

The Gusty Tumbler Band and If These Trees Were Clouds are both acts coming to FOMPL Rock Freezes Over by way of UW-Whitewater. The Gustsy Tumbler Band feature an acoustic rock sound influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan. If These Trees Were Clouds have a sound that combines equal parts jam band and modern alternative rock. This will be the first performance in Marshfield for both groups.

Alex Pitsch is also a student at UW-Whitewater but calls Marshfield home. Drawing from influences such as Cat Power, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Mumford and Sons, Pitsch's smart, sassy acoustic performance will feature both original and cover songs. Members of the community may remember Marshfield area appearances by Pitsch from years past and will surely be delighted by the high quality performance that she guarantees.

Push the Button, Frank is a rock trio made of up guitarist/vocalist Steve Danger Apfel and bassist/vocalist Jacob Ford of Marshfield and drummer Chad Fronk of Medford. The group covers artists ranging from the Cure and New Order to Bush, Muse, and Marvin Gaye. The trio creates a solid rock sound that will keep listeners entertained and grooving. This will be the group's first performance.

The members of Marshfield metal band Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid are still in high school but that hasn't stopped them from taking on an ambitious number of performances in 2010. Members Mason Coaty, John Foemmel, Joe Babbitts, Austin Martin, and Andrew Zinn have brought their metalcore sound to venues throughout the state including stops in Medford, La Crosse, and the innaugural Marshfield Meets Metal concert.

Kings of Lame are a duo who pride themselves on covering songs that many other acts are afraid to touch. Billing themselves as the area's only two man-boy band, members Bryan W. Fleming and Steve Danger Apfel have a combined wealth of pop knowledge and musical skill allowing them to apply their acoustic hijinks to any song they set their sights on. FOMPL Rock Freezes Over will be the duo's second performance and is sure to bring out the guilty pleasures of each audience member. Joining Fleming and Apfel for this performance will be newcomer Midwest Tri-State Keytar Orchestra, a group of multitalented performers making their first public appearance as a band.
