First Thursday's Slam Poetry Competition presented by Kealoha

Okay, so you're thinking, "What the heck is a Slam Poetry Competition and why should I go?" If you've seen 8 Mile (starring Eminem) you'd remember those impromptu rap battles he'd go to. Basically, Slam Poetry is just like that, except it doesn't only deal with Rap, but all forms of Music, Dance, Poetry and whatever else the "artistic community" comes up with! (I've heard mention of painting?!)

On top of that, ANY brave soul can enter the competition and could win $100.00! The best spoken word poets from First Thursdays qualify for the HawaiiSlam Team, which is determined once a year. This team competes in festivals on the mainland (including the National Poetry Slam) and also does numerous shows and school visits (assemblies, workshops, etc) here in the islands
