Set in Dorset, England, the play tells the story of Norman Bartholomew, a painter who is obsessed with famous murderers of the past. He takes great pleasure in recreating their crimes, and hopes to one day join their ranks by performing a murder of his own. But does he honestly have the stomach to carry out a masterful homicide? Caught between an impatient mistress, his estranged wife, and a tenacious detective, Norman's game is about to spiral out-of-control.

Opening with one of the most truly horrifying scenes ever devised for the stage, this tale of murder, has been rated "R" for disturbing content involving blood and gore. Anthony Shaffer's chilling tale, “Murderer,” depicts what happens when violent fantasies are taken too far.

The cast includes James O’Hagan-Murphy as Norman Bartholomew, Lindsey Christian as Millie Sykes, Luke Terry as Sergeant Stenning and Theresa Dwyer Reid as Elizabeth Bartholomew.

British playwright Anthony Shaffer, author of the original stage and film versions of Sleuth, cult horror The Wicker Man and Hitchcock's suspense thriller Frenzy is one of the most influential and inspiring dramatists of modern times. He is the twin brother of playwright, Peter Shaffer.

Combining his love of the murder-mystery genre and games playing, Shaffer forged a unique writing style of his own. Throughout his work lurks a menacing pattern of psychological teasing of his audiences by means of intricate and twisting plots, sharp, witty dialogue and doses of dark humor.
