Willful, woeful and wily writer/producer Annabelle Gurwitch opens the film with her own tale of being fired by Woody Allen (he said she sounded “retarded”); an experience that inspires her to start talking to anyone and everyone about the subject. While losing a job can be one of the most difficult and painful events in a person’s life, this project succeeds in highlighting the humor and positive effects that can come from such a loss. Gurwitch interviews a wide range of folks from Walter Scheib (the former White House Chef) to Andy Dick to former Labor Secretary Robert Reich and a slew of other hysterical celebrities and everyday people who share in the cathartic nature of this uplifting film.

Following the film, Gurwitch discusses and signs her book—Fired! Tales of the Canned, Canceled, Downsized and Dismissed—a collection of brutally honest, self-deprecating and witty accounts of getting the boot.
