At 6:00 p.m. on October 15, 2009, the Commonwealth Club of California in association with NorCal Peace Corps Assn. (PCA) will present, 'Finally! A U.S. National Peace Academy".

The National Peace Academy in the United States will take its place among leading education and peace-building institutions across the U.S. and around the world that are focused on advancing cultures of peace. The purpose of the Academy is to support, advance, and nurture cultures of peace by conducting research and facilitating learning toward the development of peace systems and the development of the full spectrum of the peace-builder.
Dr. Mike Abkin, Director of Organizational Development and Operations, will describe the Academy's background, status, and plans, what distinguishes it in the field, and how it is working cooperatively with and through existing and emerging institutions and programs in government, military academies, business, and civil society to add value to peacebuilding efforts at home and abroad.
A networking reception will begin at 5:30 at the Club Office, 595 Market St. (2nd floor), which is at the corner of 2nd St. and Market, above the Montgomery St. BART Station.
