Final Weekend of The Ice at Discovery Green
Outdoor Skating Concludes on Monday, January 19, 2009

The Ice at Discovery Green, Holiday Skating on Kinder Lake, presented by the Houston Chronicle has been a resounding success with Houstonians since its opening on Thanksgiving Day. This is the final weekend to enjoy outdoor ice skating as the season will wrap up on MLK Day, Monday, January 19, 2009.

Don’t miss the holiday weekend at Discovery Green, Houston’s newest downtown park.

This weekend is the final days of The Ice at Discovery Green, the 7,200 square-foot skating surface at Kinder Lake this season. IceRinkEvents, a Houston-based designer, manufacturer, installer, and operator of ice rinks around the globe, has transformed Kinder Lake’s model boat basin into a holiday skating destination. For just $10 including skate rental, Houstonians are invited to enjoy the Ice Rink with extended holiday hours of 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Friday though Monday.

Recycled Gazebo, created by Huntsville artist Dan Phillips, will be on display at Discovery Green through January 24. The unique creation measures 16’ by 13’ and is made from 100% recycled glass. Located on the Compass Bank Waterside Lawn, adjacent to Kinder Lake, Recycled Gazebo has fascinated visitors to the park since its arrival in June.

Houston’s Hottest Donuts, a colorful concession stand, has become a favorite stop of visitors to Discovery Green. Minerva Tristan serves freshly baked donuts with a special recipe by chef Robert Del Grande, Tuesdays - Sundays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pick up a half dozen for $3 or dozen for $6. Houston's Hottest Donuts is located across from The Grove on the Andrea & Bill White Promenade.
