American artist Abbott Handerson Thayer (1849-1921) gave up painting society portraits to explore the wilderness of New Hampshire, where he lived. A devoted naturalist, he spent time studying how animals conceal themselves from predators in the wild. During WWI, Thayer pioneered the earliest ideas of camouflage and tried to persuade the Allies to adopt his theories to safeguard troops and ships. A discussion with filmmakers Carl Colby and Pamela R. Peabody follows the screening.
