This August, The Crucible, the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier school of industrial arts, is offering special four-day classes that provide a hands-on introduction to bronze casting, blacksmithing, welding, glass flameworking, jewelry making, neon, woodworking, and more. All workshops run from 10AM to 5PM daily from August 20 to 23, unless otherwise noted.

The following workshops include three and half hours of instruction and two hours of independent lab work each day.

Glass Flameworking introduces use of an oxy-propane torch to melt glass so that you can
shape it to make marbles, beads, bottles, and more. (Entry level. Price: $400; Member’s Price: $370)

Introduction to Blacksmithing teaches fundamental skills needed to forge steel.

Introduction to Jewelry & Metals (A) teaches the skills needed to make jewelry and includes the creation of a silver ring. (Entry level.
