25 Job'S Ln
Southampton, New York 11968

This exhibition of approximately forty objects in all media is drawn from the Parrish Art Museum's extensive holdings of works by Fairfield Porter. When Porter died on September 18, 1975 in Southampton, most of the works left in his studio were given by Porter's widow to the Parrish. This unique gift included, in addition to major paintings and important works on paper, an unusually large number of works in a less finished state, including some unstretched paintings on canvas and a large number of paintings on boards. While the finished works have been widely exhibited, the unfinished paintings and most of the paintings on board have never been shown. In addition to a selection of completed paintings and works on paper, 'Fairfield Porter: Raw' will present, for the first time, these unfinished paintings and accompanying sketches, drawings, and ephemera.
