Exhibit: Cycles of Life July 1, 2009

Las Cruces, NM – “Cycles of Life”, the diverse works of six regional artists opens Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Branigan Cultural Center with a reception from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The show continues through July 25th.

Julie Ford Oliver brought the artists together for this exhibit after being inspired by a similar exhibit at a museum in England. Each artist brings their interpretation on a cycle of life, as influenced by their profession, cultural heritage, and chosen media.

Ann Angelo is a social worker who creates contemporary quilts and banners. Poetry is the media of Rick Bernstein, a scientist. Claude Montes, a sculptor, finds life in marble and stone. Margaret Bernstein, a journalist, works with the written word through interactive books and spiral pieces. Jim Turrentine, owner of Big Picture Studio/Main Street Gallery, is a photographer. Paintings and drawings by Julie Ford Oliver reflect on the cycle of life with cancer.

“The exhibit opens on Thursday, since the museum will be closed on Friday in observance of the 4th of July,” stated Cultural Center Manager, Garland Courts. “‘Cycles of Life’ is a dynamic exhibit and shows the depth and breadth of arts in our community” he added.

The Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main Street, is located at the north end of the Downtown Mall in Las Cruces. The exhibit and reception is free and open to the public.
