Breakbone DanceCo will premiere "Excavation of Remains" for a two week run July *29, 30, 31 & August 5, 6, 7 at Hamlin Park Studio Theater. Performances are Wed/Thur/Fri only at 7:30p. Tickets $15 gen, $10 student/seniors (*$10 Opening Night Tickets on Wednesday July 29th for ALL!). "Excavation" explores seven intriguing stories from the perspective of the decedents. Taking place in a morgue, the company members have constructed each of their own unique stories gathered from life experience, personal fascinations, headline news, or simply made up . Directed & conceived by Atalee Judy, the seven stories unfold utilizing various elements: abstracted forms of movement, non-linear as well as narrative story lines, visual projections on multiple surfaces, live accompaniment by the performers (often singing, playing instruments or dialoguing with each other) and the overall structure of the show being constantly interrupted by other sections, stories or moments that may verge on the absurd.

"Excavation" also marks a distinctive new playing field for Breakbone in an un-signature-like display of levity, dark humour, irony, sensitivity to process and consideration for the audience, which all indicate a new trajectory for the company this upcoming year. Recently awarded the prestigious Chicago Dancemakers Forum Award, Artistic Director Atalee Judy is taking this opportunity to slow down and enjoy the creative process. With a focus on investigating the anti-production elements: taking down curtains and flats that hide things, throwing windows open, performing in a raw space, welcoming the ambiance of life outside (baseball games, kids playing, cell phone discussions, etc), having the audience sit in the round to view all angles of the performance, and even lighting the space using non conventional instruments.
