Chris will discuss the proper selection, planting, and early training of fruit trees; proper pruning and structuring of existing fruit trees in your garden; as well as the key differences in fruiting characteristics (and pruning needs) between species. Particular attention will be given to the special pruning and maintenance of 'espaliered' apple and pear specimens. The class will be part classroom lecture and part field demonstration (weather permitting).

Chris Ingram is an ISA certified arborist and an APA Certified Aesthetic Pruner with 30+ years of experience in arboriculture and pruning. He is an instructor of Aesthetic pruning at Merritt College in Oakland and has been a guest instructor with the Master Gardener program in Marin. Chris is a graduate of Merritt College Horticultural Department and the Strybing Arboretum Master Pruning Program and has studied under world famous aesthetic pruning master Denis Makishima. Chris and his wife own an historic olive orchard in Butte County, CA and he has planted and maintained numerous fruit orchards in and around the Bay Area. Chris owns and operates Mr. Prune Tree Service in San Francisco, providing a full range of arboriculture services including selection, pruning, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and consultation.
