"Encounter Point": Film screening and discussion September 25, 2007

ENCOUNTER POINT is a documentary film that sensitively explores the challenges and hopes of Israeli-Palestinian partnerships towards a just future vision in the Middle East. It is also one part of a larger project, Just Visions, that archives interviews with Israeli and Palestinian peace-makers (www.justvision.org). Encounter Point is an 85-minute feature documentary film that follows a former Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother who risk their lives and public standing to promote a nonviolent end to the conflict. The film explores what drives them and thousands of other like-minded civilians to overcome anger and grief to work for grassroots solutions. It is a film about the everyday leaders in our midst. For 16 months, the Just Vision crew, made up of four Israeli, Palestinian, Brazilian, and American women, followed the stories of ordinary people driven to work for an end to bloodshed and occupation in favor of peace.

Following the screening, we will host a panel with film-makers Ronit Avni and Nahanni Rous, educational Director Ned Lazarus, and Professor Wendy Pullan, director of the Conflict in Cities international project and a Reader in the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge, who will discuss the problems facing Israeli-Palestinian partnerships and the spatial dimensions of those challenges.
