Jazz critic Leonard Feather said of clarinetist Eddie Daniels, "It is a rare event in jazz where one man can all but reinvent an instrument bringing it to a new stage of revolution." Since beginning at age 13 and receiving his Masters in Clarinet from Juilliard, Daniels went on to record and perform with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis orchestra, wherein his performance on their Live at the Village Vanguard recording yielded him Downbeat Magazine's “International Critics New Star on Clarinet” Award. Daniels is known the world over for his unique combinations of jazz and classical compositions – in Eddie’s hands, audiences are treated to equal parts Mozart and Miles. The Georgia State University Jazz Band, founded over 30 years ago and led by Gordon Vernick, has backed notables like Nicholas Payton, Slide Hampton, David Sánchez, Jon Faddis, and Jimmy Heath.
