Hedda Gabler
By Henrik Ibsen
Directed by Eric Little
Featuring Kelly Schnider, Terry Meddows, Michelle Hand, Charles Barron, Aaron Benedict, Donna Weinsting and Sally Eaton

Just home from a six-month honeymoon, the feisty and intelligent Hedda struggles to come to terms with a marriage to a man she finds numbingly dull and the possible pregnancy that threatens to seize hold of her body and future. The situation worsens when a secret relationship from her past threatens to ruin all of her plans. The constraints and shackles of society prove too much, even for Hedda's power, and she begins to indulge in hateful games, manipulating the fates of all who enter her orbit. She eventually goes too far, setting in motion a string of riveting, ultimately tragic events.

Regarded by many as Ibsen's masterwork, Hedda Gabler was a provocative, unsparing indictment of the middle class when it was first performed in 1891. Today, the play still retains its capacity to shock and entertain. For this production, artistic director Eric Little has set the action in America’s mid-1950s. This shift sheds a new light on the play, allowing us to see the characters as plausible individuals trying to live a fantasy of the “American Dream.”

Featuring ensemble member Kelly Schnider (Marat/Sade, Uncle Vanya, Problem Child) in the title role, Echo brings to life Ibsen’s famed classic—and takes you inside the mind of one of the most compelling, complex, and utterly captivating women in dramatic literature.
