What does this title mean?
In the same way that Web 2.0 focuses on emerging business and technology developments that utilise the Web as a platform and defines how the Web will drive business in the future, Directories 2.0 is the same concept applied to our industry: the next generation of interactive services in which users create communities and generate content; the constant evolution in online search and mobile access; and print that still provides opportunities for innovation.

Should we be involving users in the creation of content? Is it up to us to provide them with better search features for the local market place? We need to retain our advertisers in the face of increasing competition and convince them of the performance of our print and online propositions, but how do we train our sales forces to present our offers to increasingly sophisticated media buyers?

The focus will be on today’s changing marketplace for directory publishing. Now that the Web has become a robust platform with countless innovations driving its ongoing development, it presents a threat from disruption of traditional directory publisher business models. But within the chaos of disruption lies opportunity. Many publishers have developed competitive online products and others have stepped up to the challenge and moved their printed products forward.
