Fayetteville Street
Durham, North Carolina

Grand Marshal, Dr. Charlie Nelms, Chancellor, North Carolina Central University

The Parade's theme is "Going Forward By Going Backward." On January 16, 2010 the world will witness one of Dr. King's dreams becoming a reality - the inauguration of the U.S. President who was elected because of his character and not because of, but in spite of, his skin color. As a kick-off for Black History Month, the Durham MLK Parade will honor and recognize Dr. King.

April 4, 1954 at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. King states, “Our problem lies in the fact that through our scientific genius we have made of the world a neighborhood, but through our moral genius we have failed to make it a brotherhood.”
