Joseph Olson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he subsequently began his career in art. He received his MFA degree from Tyler School of Fine Arts and his MEd at Temple University. In 1970, he received his EdD from the University of Georgia. In addition to teaching art at Millersville State University, University of Georgia, and Georgia Southern College for 20 years, Dr. Olson has shown his work all around the world. As an artist he has earned many accolades including having his work shown in Art USA in Madison Square Garden, awarded in 1970 a purchase prize from Wayne Thiebaud at Purdue University, received the Georgia Artist Award from the High Museum of Art in Atlanta in 1971, and awarded the Artist of Excellence from Governor Joe Frank Harris in 1983.
