Due to the severe snow storm on February 2, the second installment of the Lindo Theatre’s Film Noir/Hardboiled Detectives Film Series, “Double Indemnity,” has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 16. There will be two showings at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. This screening is part of the Lindo Theatre’s Film Noir/Hardboiled Detectives Film Series in partnership with the Stephenson County Historical Museum and Highland Community College. Admission is $5, and tickets are available at the Lindo Theatre box office.

Film noir is about what people want, how badly they want it and how far they will go to get it. For movie-lovers, noir is all about style: slanted camera angles, dense shadows, a romantic, doom-laden atmosphere, always in shimmering, high-contrast black and white. “Double Indemnity” is considered a classic of the genre.

“Double Indemnity” stars Fred MacMurray as insurance salesman Walter Neff, who has an affair with a client’s wife, Phyllis Dietrichson. Phyllis proposes they kill her husband to collect his insurance. Walter plots to receive twice the amount based on a double indemnity clause. Walter’s best friend does not believe that Mr. Dietrichson’s death was accidental and suspects Phyllis has murdered him with the help of another man. The great cast also includes Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson.

The Film Noir/Hardboiled Detective series was put together with the assistance of Dr. Ed Finch, executive director of the Freeport Historical Museum, and Alan Wenzel, Speech and Communications Instructor at Highland Community College. Movie-goers are encouraged to stay after the movie and enjoy a discussion of the film led by Finch and Wenzel.

The series offers movie lovers a rare opportunity to see four celebrated movies as originally intended – on a big screen with great sound in a historic, restored 1922 theatre. Upcoming movies in the series include “Murder My Sweet” on March 2, “The Third Man“ on April 6, and a surprise treat—the classic Astaire and Rogers musical “Swing Time” on April 27.
