Montreal-born artist Dorothea Rockburne is a leading Abstract artist. Her work explores geometry, equilibrium, and proportional relationships while using materials like cardboard, crude oil, and, more recently, gold leaf and pure pigment. Her deep interest in mathematics and astronomy is evident in her work-in-progress mural, Homage to Colin Powell. Homage depicts the sky over Jamaica on the night Colin Powell, whose parents were from Jamaica, was born. Rockburne will complete the mural in August, and it will be on display until early September.
