Communities, like gardens, are most beautiful when there are a variety of inhabitants thriving together. On May 14th, diversity will be planted in the form of ICL’s Diversity through the Arts Fair. Held in the culturally rich community of the Crown Heights section in Brooklyn, this free fair will be the perfect way to spend the day outside with family, friends, and neighbors.

WHAT: Diversity through the Arts Fair
All day activities include: live music and entertainment, a complimentary hot buffet featuring international foods, planting activities, art exhibitions by local Brooklyn artists and music by ICL’s in-house, consumer-based band, the Mixed Nuts

WHO: Children, Families, Artists & Community Members

WHEN: May 14, 2011, from 12pm-4pm

WHERE: 839 St. Marks Avenue (across from the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues)

ICL, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, offers over 100 different programs that serve over 9,000 people each year throughout New York City, with the majority centered in Brooklyn. To symbolize ICL’s unity of and the diversity of the populations it serves and to add beauty to the community, plants representing the different facets of ICL will be planted in the garden by members of ICL, staff and the community. The garden, like its surrounding community, will truly be diverse. An international buffet, music by ICL’s house band -- the Mixed Nuts -- and multi-cultural entertainment will round out the festivities.
