DIVAS JAZZ: New Orleans January 15, 2011

From Buddy Bolden to Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet to Jelly Roll Morton, there’s a reason New Orleans is distinctly known as the Birthplace of Jazz! We’ll explore the rump-shaking street beat, traditional swing, and modern day funk that makes the Crescent City such a spectacular place to experience.

Jazz Salon: New Orleans includes an incredible line-up of jazz musicians with wide-ranging mix of instruments and styles – from the clarinet to the soprano sax, and from the trumpet to the trombone. The evening will focus on some of the renowned musical battles between the legendary Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet.

Guest performers throughout the evening include:

Grammy Award winning trumpeter Nicholas Payton
Clarinetist Dr. Michael White and his Liberty Jazz Band
Saxophonist Mark Gross
And a special guest appearance by jazz trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis
